Citing unnamed sources, Velonews.com is reporting that Lance Armstrong will ride for Astana in the 2009 cycling season.
I'll let you click on the story for details, mostly because I don't have time to post them all, but I have to ask why? I thought he was enjoying being retired, owning a bike shop, hanging with Matthew McConaughey and being photographed in the company of Hollywood starlets.
Or maybe, like Freddy Mercury, he just wants to ride his "bicylce, bicycle, BICYCLE! race!"
Twelve years ago Lance tried retirement, and it didn't really suit him then. I guess it doesn't really suit him now either. I wouldn't be surprise if his second-place finish in Leadville might have given fuel to his desire to continue competing.
Yeah...
ReplyDeleteMichael Jordan, Garth Brooks...celebrities only retire so that they can make an awesome comeback and prove that they really need to be retired.
I think Katie is wrong in this case. Lance wouldn't come back unless he thought he could win. He'll take the Tour in '09 and then some.
ReplyDelete(And, I'm totally not biased.)
I didn't think you were old enough to toss in a Queen reference. But since you did, dod you have a thumb bell on your "bi-cycle" like they use in the song?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Queen is one of those bands that are ageless, like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles or K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
ReplyDeleteSecond, no, I do not have a bell on my bike. No bike with drop handlebars, gears or even a hint of carbon fiber on it should ever have a bell. Besides I find yelling to be much more attention-getting than a bell. Which is helpful when someone's about to back out of their driveway in front of you.
